One out of two Smartphones you see run Android
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011Researchers at Gartner now report that one in every two Smartphones sold in the world, run Android. According to their latest study, Android claims a 52.5 percent market share worldwide, in the third quarter of 2011. About a year ago, their market share was a mere 25.3 percent and by the last quarter, it touched a mark of 43.4 percent. Today, with its stunning operating system and a vast collection of devices, Google sits pretty at the top, stealing market shares from almost every other Smartphone.
Smartphone market has been a churning revolution for a while and so, it’s not surprising to see a steep 42 percent in its growth in just a year’s time. As a matter of fact, sale of Smartphones to end users reached 115 million units in the third quarter of 2011! (more…)
Why touch when you can gesticulate with your new Vega LTE?

Ltd., one of Korea’s top three mobile handset makers, the introduction of their new Vega LTE smartphones will mark the beginning of a new era, the Era of Gesticulation.
It was Pantech who introduced the world to hands-free gesture-based controls for performing actions like answering phone calls, turning a page in an e-reader, switching songs, and even swiping through pictures in a gallery. They are now all set to revolutionize the smart phone industry with their new Vega LTE.
Vega LTE is an Android-based handset integrated with the Hand Gesture Recognition Technology, a technology allows users to interact with devices using simple hand gestures, developed by eyeSight. This technology, along with advanced Motion Sensing and Motion Capture algorithms, detects and interprets user’s movements, like waves and taps, in view of its camera to carry out tasks accordingly. Siri Differentiates iPhone 4S From Its Predecessors
Friday, October 7th, 2011A few days back, Apple’s ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event was held at its head quarters in Cupertino, California. Disappointment struck gadget enthusiasts as expectations for iPhone 5 were laid to rest. Now, with the passing away of Steve Jobs, the company may continue to lose its stock value. The event, however, witnessed the unveiling of more than 200 new features for iOS 5 along with iPod updates, iCloud and iPhone 4S.The iPhone 4S will be available on October 14, 2011 in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan. The smart phone comes in two colors – black and white. At first glance, although it looks exactly like the iPhone, it isn’t the same. Apple’s phone will feature the company’s new A5 dual-core processor. Apple boasts that the A5 is seven times faster than the previous processor. Reviewers say graphics are super detailed. Updates aside, there is one feature which differentiates iPhone 4S from its predecessors – the Siri. We will be analyzing this feature in detail here.

Google has attempted to break the Facebook wall many times before, only to bruise itself. Google Waves had to be shut down and Google Buzz doesn’t seem to be picking up. iAd – The New Face Of Mobile Advertising

The Battle of the Touch Phones
Monday, July 19th, 2010Touch phones from iPhone, HTCs and other brands have been around for a while, where as Nokia had not come up with their smart phones until recently. Nokia offers most of the latest technologies, but they have had a typical vintage ‘phone’ look. During February 2010, the buzz for open sources for mobile software and OS grew stronger with the merger of moblin (mobile linux from Intel) and maemo (FOSS initiative for mobiles and other handhelds from Nokia) and which gave birth to the Meego operating system. Both maemo and moblin could be installed on mobile phones and applications on these platforms could be developed in C/C++.
What is new with Android 2.2 Froyo?

A reading on developer features and API changes can be had on Framework API section. Android 2.2 platform is available to developers as a downloadable component for the Android SDK and it includes a fully compliant Android library and system image, as well as a set of emulator skins and sample applications.
